Top-Ranked Michigan Linebacker Junior Colson: Secures Lott IMPACT Trophy Victory

Top-Ranked Michigan Linebacker Junior Colson: Junior Colson, the linebacker from top-ranked Michigan, clinched the Lott IMPACT Trophy, recognizing the college football player who excels both on and off the field. Born in Haiti, Colson was presented with the 20th annual award by Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.

Colson’s stellar performance included leading the Wolverines with 71 tackles, a notable 26 more than the second-highest player, along with two tackles for a loss and a pair of quarterback hurries.

He joins the ranks of Michigan players like Jabrill Peppers in 2016 and Aidan Hutchinson in 2021 who have received this honor. The IMPACT acronym represents integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community, and tenacity.

Competing against finalists Jonah Elliss of Utah, Laiatu Latu of UCLA, and Dallas Turner of fifth-ranked Alabama, Colson showcased his prowess on the field, leading the nation’s best defense to an undefeated regular season and the top seed in the College Football Playoff.

Colson and Turner are set to face each other again when Michigan and Alabama clash in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day as part of the CFP semifinal. Michigan will receive $25,000 for its general scholarship fund, while the other three schools will receive $5,000 each.
