Remembering Jason McGee: Sheffield Athletic Hero Lives On Through Scholarship

Remembering Jason McGee: In a tragic car wreck after a basketball game, Sheffield City Schools lost a cherished member, Jason McGee, the beloved athletic trainer. With a 16-year legacy, McGee’s impact is deeply felt throughout the community.

Close friend Mark White, who had a 30-year friendship with McGee, expressed the difficulty of losing such a significant person. In an effort to preserve McGee’s memory, White decided to establish the Jason McGee Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“We’re so limited. I feel like when I lose a person like that in my life, my hands are tied. What you want to do is bring them back. You want to have that person in your life,” shared White.

The scholarship fund aims to support Sheffield High School seniors aspiring to follow in McGee’s footsteps in the medical field. McGee’s legacy, though formidable on its own, is remembered fondly by the students and staff.

Describing McGee as a larger-than-life character, Principal Marcus Rice highlighted his irreplaceable nature. “He was a larger than life character. His laugh, you could hear him coming from if you were on one side of the stadium you could hear him from the other side of the stadium. He loved our kids here,” said Rice.

To contribute to the Jason McGee Memorial Scholarship Fund, donations can be made at any Regions Bank location. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated individual, and the scholarship stands as a tribute to his enduring impact on Sheffield City Schools.
