November Heat and Wildfire Woes in Birmingham: Weather Update

November Heat and Wildfire Woes in Birmingham: November’s still bringing the heat to Birmingham, but watch out for wildfires! Dry soil, heat, and a gentle breeze are cooking up trouble. Wednesday’s a copy of Tuesday, mid-50s mornings and sunny afternoons hitting 80-82. But hold on, a slow cold front creeps in, bringing potential rain and cooler vibes for the weekend. Thursday’s a bit cooler, upper 70s to lower 80s, with partly to mostly cloudy skies.

Now, relief from the drought is on the horizon, but don’t get too excited. Rain’s coming, but it won’t be a downpour. Most Alabama communities get less than half an inch on Friday. Northwest Alabama might see a bit more, around a tenth to a quarter of an inch from Cullman to Hamilton by midday. Birmingham might get a light sprinkle, scattered throughout Friday, with just a fraction of an inch by the afternoon. High school football playoff games won’t be soaked, many moved to Thursday night just in case.

As Veterans Day weekend rolls in, the cold front heads south, leaving behind moisture and cloudy vibes. Brace yourself for a cool, gloomy weekend, 50s temps, and occasional light rain. Sunday brings more rain, and Central and South Alabama can expect about a quarter to a half inch by Sunday night.

While this rain helps, it won’t break the drought’s grip. Still, it’s a lifeline against wildfires. Looking forward, next week promises cooler, drier days for Alabama. Daytime temps hover in the 60s and low 70s, with nighttime lows dropping to the low 40s. Rain’s taking a back seat, offering a dry spell after recent wet weather.
