Lavender Lane Expansion: A Fixing for Safer Roads in Daphne, Alabama

Lavender Lane Expansion: DAPHNE, Ala. Currently, Lavender Lane only leads to the Daphne Police Department, but come early next year, it’s fixing’ to get a whole lot busier.

They’re stretching’ out the road, slinging it behind Chick-fil-A and the Wacky Shrimp joint, guiding the traffic from the Target parking lot to a brand-new red light at Highway 98 right in front of the justice center.

Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune said, “This started as safety for folks traveling’ and trying to get in and out of that area.”

“We’re gonna be making it safer, where you won’t be able to cross all that traffic coming out of Chick-fil-A, which has been a real hazard, causing some major crashes and fatalities,” LeJeune added.

So, no more turning southbound onto Highway 98 from these parking lots. The bids will be cracked open on Thursday, and that’s when we’ll figure out who’s snatching up the job at the best price.

LeJeune said, “We’ll open those tomorrow, so we’ll know exactly what the project cost is. Our estimate right now is around $4.5 million to $5 million for the project, so then we’ll finally know what the real number is.”

At least six contractors have thrown their hats in the ring for the project. State and federal funds will be kicking’ in to help foot the bill, with work revving up around February.
