Foley Seeks Resident Input for Fast Expanding: Foley, Alabama (WPMI) The city of Foley is gearing up for anticipated growth by crafting a strategic plan. In this initiative, residents, business members, and stakeholders are invited to participate in a survey and attend public meetings to contribute insights for the plan. The survey can be accessed on the citys Mayor Ralph Hellmich emphasized that this plan differs from previous city guides.
In Foley, we’ve always been proactive about planning for the future, Hellmich stated. We have robust land use plans and comprehensive plans used by our Planning Commission. We’re well-equipped.
Hellmich explained that the new plan will integrate more information, including public opinions, to create a comprehensive guide for the next five years.
Historically, Foley hasn’t had a strategic plan beyond the vision of the council and the mayor, Hellmich noted. While we’ve set a strong vision at the start of this term and are implementing it, Foley requires a strategic plan that consolidates everything for our journey over the next five years.
Over the last two years, Foley has experienced faster growth than any other city in Baldwin or Mobile counties. According to census reports, the citys population surged by 2,979, marking a growth rate of 14.47%. This change represents the largest numerical increase in the Mobile Bay region and the highest percentage among major cities.
The current population of the city stands at approximately 25,000, as per census estimates. In the 2020 census, Foley recorded 20,335 residents.
As part of the strategic plan development, the survey seeks input on residents’ aspirations for Foley in the next five years. Participants are also asked to prioritize key areas, including growth and development, business and economy, public safety, parks and recreation, city infrastructure, and housing.
