Alabama welcomes the country inaugural Miele: Miele, a renowned high-end appliance manufacturer, is making its inaugural entry into the United States, choosing Opelika, Alabama, as its landing spot. Explore further for comprehensive details.
Miele manufacturing hub coming 2024
Established in 1899, Miele, a German-based brand, has a rich history. Today, they produce stylish, contemporary, and top-notch appliances for cooking, cleaning, and laundry. With a company motto of “Immer Besser,” meaning “Forever Better,” Miele is committed to innovation and sustainability. Their expansion into the US includes Opelika, Alabama, marking their first manufacturing hub in the country. Here’s their perspective on the choice of location:
Opelika is a fast-growing and prosperous city in south-east Alabama with a current population of around 32,000. Including the neighboring city of Auburn, which is home to one of the states leading technical universities, more than 100,000 people live in the region.
Miele Senior Vice President of Business Unit Cooking Dr. Uwe Brunkhorst commented on Opelikas attractiveness for their first US facility:
This means that there is a good supply of skilled workers, including highly qualified engineers.
Overall, Opelika offers the best conditions for a successful start for our new plant, including the long-term perspective for further expansion stages.
Dr. Uwe Brunkhorst, Senior Vice President of Business Unit Cooking, Miele
At the new manufacturing hub, where production is expected to start by the end of 2024, Miele will produce ovens and ranges, and later ventilation hoods.
Bringing jobs to Opelika
Anticipated to generate 150 jobs in Opelika by 2026, the new manufacturing facility will further increase employment opportunities with Phase II of expansion by 2030. This larger production center aims to establish itself as Miele’s primary US production facility.
Miele is one the worlds most iconic brands, and were thrilled to have this great company select Alabama as the home for its first U.S. manufacturing facility.
Miele is a wonderful addition to our states business community, and I look forward to the day when its new Opelika facility is turning out first-class Made in USA appliances coming from Alabama.
Governor Kay Ivey
According to the Alabama Department of Commerce, Miele selected the Opelika location over potential sites in Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Mississippi.
We are excited to announce the arrival of Miele to our vibrant community. We are committed to fostering innovation, creating high-quality jobs and contributing to the economic growth of our community.
Together, we look forward to a future filled with shared success and lasting positive impact.
