Redstone Arsenal Substance Abuse Program: Department of Veterans Affairs Resource Fairs play a crucial role in providing veterans with information about support, services, and resources tailored to their needs. The Garrison’s Army Substance Abuse Program team actively participated in a Resource Fair hosted by the Huntsville Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic on Nov. 13.
Jim Wesser, the Employee Assistance Program coordinator, and Bryan Copeland, the Community Readiness and Resilience integrator, represented the Army Substance Abuse Program with a resource table featuring information on the program at Redstone Arsenal. The program, free for qualified participants, offers confidential support to DOD civilians, military and DOD civilian retirees, and active-duty military members and their families.
The Resource Fair aimed to help veterans connect with services that meet their specific needs. Gregg DeBoer, the patient advocate at Huntsville Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, emphasized the significance of including resources from Redstone Arsenal in the event, considering the connection many veterans have to the installation.
During the half-day event, around 400 participants had the opportunity to gather information on VA health care enrollment, mental health resources, healthcare sources, and educational benefits. Copeland and Wesser, both veterans, expressed the importance of reaching out to help fellow veterans, and Wesser highlighted the positive impact of connecting with other vendors and gaining additional resources for the Substance Abuse Program.
Resource fairs like these serve to connect veterans with the resources that matter most to them, supporting their unique needs within the local communities. Copeland stressed the importance of Redstone Arsenal’s participation in the event, fostering connections with other providers and demonstrating their readiness to support both on the installation and in the local community.
