Dalton Pharmacy Honored with Alabama Centennial Award: for 120 Years of Service

Dalton Pharmacy Honored with Alabama Centennial Award: Dalton Pharmacy, nestled in Slocomb, Alabama, recently clinched the prestigious Alabama Centennial Award from the Alabama Retail Association (ARA).

A Legacy of 120 Years Established in 1903 by Jep Paul “J.P.” Dalton in downtown Slocomb, this family-owned pharmacy marked its 120th year at its 141 S. Dalton Street location. Originally known as Dalton Drug Co., the pharmacy evolved into Dalton Pharmacy, expanding its services to encompass a broader range of healthcare products and services. These services include vaccinations, over-the-counter medications, and home deliveries for customers unable to leave their homes, according to Joe Dalton, the third-generation owner and pharmacist.

Expanding Horizons Dalton Pharmacy’s footprint has expanded to nine locations. The stores in Slocomb, Abbeville, Hartford, Troy, and Opp proudly bear the Dalton name, while the Dadeville, Headland, Luverne, and Double Springs locations operate under different names. With over 50 employees, the pharmacy group has ambitious plans for further expansion into new markets and communities. Joe Dalton expressed their commitment to reaching underserved areas, preserving small mom-and-pop pharmacies, and supporting local communities.

Generations of Dedication Four generations of Daltons have dedicated themselves to the company, with seven family members becoming pharmacists. The latest addition to this legacy is Tyler Dalton, Joe’s son, who earned his pharmacy doctorate in 2016. Tyler’s mother, Jodi, is also a community pharmacist in Auburn. The Daltons’ commitment to their community and the field of pharmacy has been recognized by the Alabama Retail Association.
