Woman Arrested in 200000 Dollar: In a significant development, the U.S. Marshals successfully apprehended Jennifer Massey, a 36-year-old woman wanted in connection with the theft of $200,000 from the Arc of Shelby County. The Shelby County Sheriffs Office announced her arrest on Wednesday, highlighting her evasion of law enforcement for over a month.
Jennifer Massey is now held without bond in the Shelby County Jail, facing a first-degree theft of property charge, compounded by a previous probation violation. Her capture follows the surrender of her mother, Cindy Massey, the former chief financial officer of The Arc of Shelby County.
Cindy Massey, 65, from Pell City, held a key financial position at The Arc of Shelby County, an advocacy agency for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Charging documents reveal that as CFO, Cindy Massey was issued a company credit card and multiple replacement cards, all intended solely for business purposes.
However, between May 1, 2022, and Aug. 15, 2023, both Cindy and Jennifer Massey exploited these cards for personal gains. The purchases extended across St. Clair, Shelby, and Jefferson counties, online transactions, and even ventures into Florida. The misappropriated funds covered rent for a personal residence, car-related expenses, veterinary services, a Florida vacation, cosmetic surgery procedures, inmate phone credits at the Shelby County Jail, and internet purchases delivered to Pelham.
The complaint alleges that Cindy Massey abused her position as CFO to settle the credit card bills using Arc’s funds. Jennifer Massey’s arrest marks a crucial step in addressing this financial misconduct within the Arc of Shelby County.”
