UAH College of Science Receives Dollar 2 Million: The William Henry McMullen III Trust has made a generous $2 million gift to the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s (UAH) College of Science. Barbara Wadsworth, McMullen’s daughter, made the donation, which will help three important Department of Chemistry projects.

First, a $1 million endowment will be used to support the William Henry McMullen III Distinguished Graduate Fellowship, which aims to draw and keep exceptional chemistry students and globally renowned researchers. The fellowship will help establish the Ph.D. program by providing $40,000 for tuition, health insurance, and a stipend.

With an endowment of $750,000, the second initiative, the William Henry McMullen III Laboratories Fund, will see to it that the equipment in UAH’s chemistry laboratories is replaced and maintained. This fund will give educators and learners
The third initiative allocates $250,000 to the William Henry McMullen III Chemistry Teaching Laboratory, located in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology. This space supports the laboratory components of the department’s introductory and general chemistry courses.

Barbara Wadsworth’s generosity is praised by UAH President Dr. Charles Karr, emphasizing the impact on enhancing the Ph.D. program and supporting vital laboratory facilities. William Henry McMullen III, an analytical chemist, is remembered for his contributions to chemistry, including work with Novo Industri AS and the creation of high fructose corn syrup. The gift aims to honor his memory and passion for chemistry.
