UAB Blazers Regain with Convincing Victory Over Alabama A and M

UAB Blazers Regain with Convincing Victory: It’s been a hot minute since UAB hit the court victorious, but a showdown with an in-state rival got them back on track. The Blazers conquered a halftime tie to secure a 93-82 win against Alabama A&M on December 13 at the Alabama A&M Event Center in Huntsville.

Coach Andy Kennedy emphasized the importance of the win, recognizing the need for tangible results with a team of new faces in varied roles. The Blazers showcased a solid offensive performance, shooting 50% overall, with a remarkable 57.1% from beyond the arc. Yaxel Lendeborg’s assertive play, securing a double-double, and the team’s overall dominance in rebounding and inside scoring marked a promising turn for UAB.

Despite some minor injuries, players like Johnson, Lendeborg, and Vasquez returned to the game, reflecting the team’s resilience. The second half saw UAB surging ahead with a 14-3 run, led by Johnson and Gaines, ultimately maintaining a double-digit lead. The team’s defensive efforts limited Alabama A&M to two field goals in the first eight minutes of the second half, securing a much-needed victory.

Looking ahead, UAB aims to build on this success as they return home to face Montevallo on December 17 at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, with tip-off set for 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
