Toney Firefighters Tackle Raging Blaze Near Hazel Green: 30 Acres Scorched, Barn Lost

Toney Firefighters Tackle Raging Blaze: TONEY, Ala.  A spokesperson for Toney Volunteer Fire & Rescue (TVFR) says a sizable brush fire near Hazel Green is now under control after scorching over 30 acres and a barn.

In a social media post, TVFR mentioned that crews swiftly responded to a mutual aid request for a large brush fire in the 700 block of Charity Lane around 12:17 p.m. The post states, “Upon arrival, crews reported a fire on the roadside that had extended into an open field of harvested corn.”

Toney Fire President Heath B. Jones stated that the fire consumed approximately 35 acres and one barn, with no reported injuries at the scene.

The fire’s intensity was exacerbated by the extreme drought and windy conditions, as noted by the fire & rescue.

TVFR collaborated with several volunteer fire departments, including Hazel Green, Bobo, and Meridianville from Madison County, along with departments from Lincoln County, Tennessee.

Expressing gratitude, officials stated, “The Toney VFD would like to say a special thanks to Lasater Farms for their assistance today with digging a fire break to help our crews contain the fire.”

Jones confirmed that the fire is contained and under control. The cause remains unknown at this time, and approximately 8,500 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire.
