SIUE Men Basketball Triumphs: SIUE Men’s Basketball Dominates, Secures 60-51 Victory Against Nicholls in South Alabama Jaguar Classic

Mobile, Alabama – In an impressive performance, SIUE men’s basketball triumphed over Nicholls with a final score of 60-51 during the second game of the South Alabama Jaguar Classic. The Cougars, now 2-0 in the tournament and 3-2 overall, showcased resilience and teamwork.

Coach Brian Barone expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Today was awesome. Our guys dug really deep.” The turning point came with a decisive 10-0 run in the first half, propelling the Cougars to a lead they maintained throughout the game.

At halftime, SIUE led 27-24, and they extended their lead to nine at the beginning of the second half. Despite Nicholls narrowing the gap to four at 33-29, SIUE regained control, securing a comfortable lead.

Both teams faced shooting challenges, with SIUE making 36% of their attempts (22 of 62), and Nicholls converting only 26% of their field goals (14 of 53). Notably, SIUE successfully limited Nicholls to seven three-pointers, two of which were in the second half.

Ray’Sean Taylor contributed significantly, hitting three of the seven three-pointers and finishing with 11 points. Shamar Wright led SIUE with 15 points, while Lamar Wright added nine points.

The Cougars dominated the rebound game, grabbing 50 rebounds compared to Nicholls’ 32. Damarco Junior pulled down 11 boards, and Terrance Thompson achieved a career-high with 10 rebounds.

Looking ahead, SIUE will face host South Alabama on Sunday afternoon, aiming to achieve a three-game victory mission. Coach Barone emphasized the importance of staying focused and being in the moment for continued success.

Kickoff on Sunday is scheduled for 12 p.m.
