Shoppers and Small Businesses Voice Concerns: Call for Action in 2024 GOP Debate

Shoppers and Small Businesses Voice Concerns: BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Shopping, a beloved pastime for many, is becoming a bit of a challenge with the increasing prices of goods taking a toll on shoppers.

Emmy Smith, a shopper, expressed her frustration, stating, “Sometimes seeing the price on a price tag is a barrier to that which is, just like, so sad.”

The rising inflation in America is being described as a barrier by shoppers, impacting their overall shopping experience. Gracie Hoyt mentioned, “Every time I look at the total, I’m like wow, that’s really expensive, and quite frankly I wasn’t really expecting it to be.”

Small business owners are also feeling the effects, emphasizing the need for candidates in the GOP 2024 Presidential debate to address the concerns of the people and present proactive plans for the economy. Jeff Tenner, owner of Soca Clothing, highlighted the importance of having leaders who make informed decisions to prevent worsening economic conditions.

During the debate, the topic of inflation was touched upon, but CBS 42 Political Analyst Steve Flowers observed that the candidates predominantly focused on other issues. Flowers emphasized that addressing the rising cost of everyday life is crucial for candidates to connect with voters in the upcoming primary season.
