Seeking Justice for Murod Kurdi: Murod Kurdi’s Oak Lawn home was devastated in June. His family wants justice beyond driving tickets. Kurdi was tragically killed by an automobile on the 5100 block of West 91st Street. His demise darkened a lovely evening.
Kurdi left his Ford F-150 outside his house on June 5. He was hit by a car and flung 15 feet, shattering the moment. Leanne Cusack, the driver, reportedly admitted to drinking before the crash. She was ticketed for speeding and refused a Breathalyzer test.
As Cusack appeared in traffic court, Kurdi’s mother, Fadia Muhamad, and others protested outside the Cook County Courthouse in Bridgeviewa moving scene. Given Kurdi’s injuries, the family demanded more severe charges against Cusack. Sadly, Kurdi died after a few days on life support.
Her lawyer, Bob Olson, expects the traffic court trial to occur the following month. Cusack hopes to contest the charge. Olson said one cop smelled alcohol on Cusack’s breath, but she wasn’t intoxicated. He commended Cusack for returning to the crash site swiftly.
Despite the tragic conclusion, Olson noted that Cusack has received death threats and is still angry. He apologized and admitted the mistake.

Oak Lawn’s substantial Arab population has discussed Kurdi’s premature death. A year after police assaulted 17-year-old Hadi Abuatelah during a traffic check, this happened. Thus, the community closely monitors law enforcement. These factors have increased requests for comprehensive Kurdi case assessments and tougher charges for Cusack.
David Petrich, a Kurdi family supporter, believes the probe has “fatal flaws” that will prevent Cusack from being charged again. Petrich’s review illustrates the legal process’s complexity. The family sued Cusack for wrongful death.
Since Cusack indicated she drank at a bar before the event, Petrich said investigators might have secured a warrant to take a blood sample. Cusack’s and her boyfriend’s contradicting statements have complicated the issue. One video contradicted her, raising questions.
The Oak Lawn Police Department‘s investigation appears to be concluded despite Kurdi’s family’s request. Petrich has requested the state’s Attorney General, Kwame Raoul, to investigate and the Cook County State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx, to consider more severe felony charges.
Kurdi’s heartbreaking experience reminds us how vital justice is, especially in our confusing court system.
