San Antonio Migrant Resource Center: Stories of Hope Amidst Uncertainty

San Antonio Migrant Resource Center: People arrive in waves, getting off buses from the border at the San Antonio Migrant Resource Center. Outside, people are excited and tired. Many people have been traveling for days or weeks, still determining their next step.

Carlos Daniel, a recent arrival, seeks shelter and assistance. He had recently arrived in San Antonio, but the challenges of his journey made him lose track of time. Carlos’s future hinges on a family member providing him with the funds for a bus or plane ticket. “My destiny is wherever the Lord takes me,” he whispers in Spanish, revealing uncertainty ahead.

Jose Daniel Montilla’s story is about persevering through challenges. His trip from Venezuela to the US took eight tough months, with problems like being sent back to Venezuela multiple times. Still, he persists for a brighter future. Unlike others, Montilla can’t access the Migrant Resource Center due to a lack of legal papers. He stays outside the gates, relying on the kindness of the neighborhood.

In the Migrant Resource Center, people can find a safe place to stay. They have a place to sleep and access food, water, and help. People in Montilla rely on the kindness of their community to survive. These neighbors bring food and support to those waiting outside the center.

The Migrant Resource Center has helped more people through collaboration between the City of San Antonio’s Human Services and Catholic Charities. Together, they help those most in need during these difficult times.

Here’s what these groups say about how the community can help migrants find safety and stability.
