Rapper G Herbo: Herbert Wright III, aka G Herbo, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making false statements in Springfield,
Massachusetts, federal court. Massachusetts hosts the court. The 27-year-old artist negotiated a plea bargain with the prosecutor to drop multiple aggravated identity theft charges.
Stolen credit card information was used to fund a lavish lifestyle that included private jets, luxury vacation rentals, exotic cars, and designer canines. G Herbo agreed to forfeit roughly 140,000 dollars, representing his share in the $1.5 million conspiracy involving several persons.
Acting US Attorney Joshua Levy said, “Mr. Wright used stolen account information as his very own unlimited funding source, using victims’ payment cards to finance an extravagant lifestyle and advance his career.”
If convicted, the rapper could face 25 years in prison on November 7. His voicemail requested his attorney’s response.
Between March 2017 and November 2018, G Herbo and his promoter Antonio Strong committed fraud. Email, SMS, and social media direct communications spread dark web account information.
The rapper and his crew chartered a plane from Chicago to Austin, Texas, using stolen account information, the prosecution said. Second, a hijacked account paid for a luxurious Jamaican estate trip.
G Herbo advertised his career by posting photos and videos of himself on private jets, in exotic cars, and at the Jamaican estate he bought with the fraud money.
The rapper also helped Strong order two designer Yorkshire terrier puppies using a stolen driver’s license and credit card. The credit card information was valid, thus all transactions went smoothly for over $10,000.
In May 2021, G Herbo was arrested for lying to investigators about his contacts to Strong, with whom he had worked since 2016. Strong, who pleaded not guilty, awaits trial.
G Herbo’s lyrics address mental health and gang violence. His music reflects his East Side Chicago upbringing. Despite his legal issues, he has engaged in Chicago’s “Swervin’ Through Stress” program to prevent and cure urban youth mental health crises. In 2021, Forbes’ 30 Under 30 music list included G Herbo, who works to address mental health issues.
