Pascagoula Library Christmas Open House: Joyful Traditions Unite Community in Mississippi

Pascagoula Library Christmas Open House: The Pascagoula Public Library in Mississippi is spreading holiday cheer with its annual Christmas Open House. The library is adorned with festive decorations, a crackling fireplace, and the sweet aroma of Christmas cookies. Local choral groups, including the Pascagoula High School choir and Colmer Middle School group, deliver lively performances, setting the stage for a joyous holiday season.

The Christmas Open House tradition, established five years ago, aims to lift spirits, particularly for those who may experience the holiday blues or face challenges during this time. Angela Stewart, the Jackson-George County Library System Director, drew inspiration from old-time open houses held in churches. The event serves as a welcoming space for the community, fostering a sense of togetherness during the holidays.

Recognizing that not everyone has someone to share the season with, Stewart emphasizes the importance of creating a warm and inclusive environment. The festivities go beyond the decorations and performances, aiming to be a source of comfort and joy for those who may be going through mental health struggles.

Dr. Cherie Bowe, Pascagoula High School Choral Director, highlights the uplifting power of fun and festive activities. The event features not only music but also contributions from the Pascagoula Senior Center Choir and the Jackson-George Regional Library System choir. Organizations like the Red Cross and the Mississippi Extension Bureau participate, further enhancing the sense of community engagement.

In the spirit of giving, the Christmas Open House encourages people to come together, share the joy of the season, and create lasting memories.
