North Alabama DAR Chapters Rally for Military Honor: Celebrates Annual National Defense

North Alabama DAR Chapters Rally for Military Honor: Seven local North Alabama chapters of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) recently came together to honor and celebrate our military men and women at their annual National Defense luncheon. This meaningful event took place on November 8th at the Huntsville Country Club.

The keynote speaker for the occasion was Brigadier General Christine A. Beeler, Commanding General of the Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal. Vietnam Veteran Dave Dunlap delivered a presentation on “The Shaping of Uncle Sam”.

The seven participating local North Alabama DAR chapters included the Heroes of Kings Mountain Chapter, NSDAR; Huntsville Chapter, NSDAR; John Wade Keyes Chapter, NSDAR; Maple Hill Chapter, NSDAR; Rainbolt Mountain Chapter, NSDAR; Stephens Chapter, NSDAR; and Twickenham Town Chapter, NSDAR. The John Wade Keyes Chapter, NSDAR Chapter Regent Pam Porterfield presided over the program.

Hosting the National Defense Luncheon during National Veterans and Military Families month and so close to Veterans Day holds significant importance for the John Wade Keyes Chapter. Chapter Regent Pam Porterfield expressed, “Patriotism is one of the three guiding missions of our organization. We wish to ensure our community never forgets the sacrifice of our Veterans and help promote a better understanding of the American heritage of freedom whose survival is preserved by our military.”

Notable figures present at the luncheon included Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Regent Patrice Donnelly and Dylan Smith, District 9 Director and Representative of US Congressman Dale Strong.

This joint DAR chapter National Defense luncheon is an annual event held during National Veterans and Military Families month. It serves as a celebration of American freedom, the U.S. Constitution, and the significance of the military while commemorating national sovereignty.

The Alabama Society DAR comprises over 4,300 women in 71 chapters across the state, tracing their lineage to patriots who contributed to the American colonists’ cause during the Revolutionary War.

Founded in 1890, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is dedicated to historic preservation, education, and patriotism. With more than 185,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR stands as one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations. DAR members are deeply committed to volunteer service, contributing over 12.5 million hours to communities worldwide in the past three years.
