Mobile Urgent Care Clinics Bustling as Flu Season : Vaccination Drive Offers Shots for Toys this Christmas

Mobile Urgent Care Clinics Bustling as Flu Season: In Mobile, Alabama, Urgent Care clinics have experienced a surge in visits over the past two months, with Greater Mobile Urgent Care Clinic reporting a 50% increase in daily patients.

Dr. Darren Waters from the clinic mentioned the heightened activity, attributing it to the seasonal impact, particularly with the flu gaining momentum. The holiday season tends to bring people together, contributing to the spread of germs. This year, the mix includes not only the usual suspects but also the added challenge of COVID-19.

Approximately 15% of the rise in clinic visits is linked to flu-like symptoms, as indicated by the Mobile Health Department. In Alabama, the toll of influenza-like illnesses has resulted in 10 reported deaths this year, according to the Mobile County Health Department.

To tackle this health challenge, Health Officer Kevin Michaels recommends updating vaccinations. Uniquely, this is the first time in history where three immunizations—addressing flu, COVID, and RSV—are available.

In response to the season of giving, Greater Mobile Urgent Care is hosting the annual “Toys and More for Shots” drive. Donating a new unwrapped toy at any of their five locations allows individuals to receive a B-12 or flu shot. Dr. Waters emphasized the importance of ensuring every child has a Christmas gift for a joyful holiday season.
