Mobile Extend-a-Suites Saga Turmoil: Residents Face Sudden Eviction Amid Unpaid Taxes

Mobile Extend-a-Suites Saga Turmoil: Down here in Mobile, Alabama, things have taken a turn for the worse at the I-65 Service Road Extend-a-Suites. A federal judge decided to yank away the stay order that was giving folks a breather, letting them stay put after one of their own filed for bankruptcy back in October.

But, here’s the kicker—the judge’s decision means these residents, who thought they had a little more time, gotta pack up and get out by 1 p.m. on a Wednesday. That’s right, quick as a hiccup.

This ruling to lift the stay order? Well, it came down from the judge’s bench on November 15. Just this past Monday, the residents got hit with the news: 24 hours. That’s all they got to find a new roof over their heads.

Joseph Finkley, one of the folks staying at Extend-a-Suites, summed it up like this: “We are actually just stuck right here now.”

No hot water, no power—Rick Myers, another resident, didn’t mince words: “No power. We’re getting put out.”

Back in October, a Mobile County Circuit Court Judge dropped the hammer on the motel, ordering it to shut down. The reason? Unpaid taxes. More than $450,000 worth. That’s a pretty hefty tab.

Now, here’s the real kicker: these residents claim they were doing their part, paying rent like clockwork, until October. They had no clue the business was sitting on a pile of unpaid taxes.

Rick Myers ain’t holding back on his frustration: “The guy that was taking our money! He f**king took our money and kept taking the money!”

Now, they’re left high and dry. No help in sight. Joseph Finkley’s laying it bare: “We have no help. I don’t know where we go . I don’t know what we  do. I don’t know how are we going to help ourselves.”

It’s a tough spot for these folks, left wondering where they’re gonna lay their heads next.
