Missouri Women Back Home: The Missouri women’s basketball squad faces a swift turnaround after its first season loss. In just over 48 hours post a defeat in Saint Louis, the Tigers head back home to take on the North Alabama Lions. The tip-off is set for 7 p.m., and you can catch the game on SEC Network-Plus.
Missouri (2-1) suffered a 93-85 defeat on the road against the Billikens last Sunday. Grace Slaughter and Ashton Judd both posted impressive performances with 21 points each, while Mama Dembele contributed 13 points and 14 assists.
Judd leads Missouri’s scoring charts with an average of 20.7 points per game after three matchups. Notably, she achieved a career-high 31 points in the Tigers’ dominant 98-57 victory over Indiana State last week.
Several other players on the team are maintaining double-digit averages, with Slaughter at 16 points per game, followed by Abbey Schreacke (11.3), Dembele (10.7), and Hayley Frank (10.0).
As they enter tonight’s game, Frank is just 19 points away from surpassing Lorraine Ferret, currently holding the No. 8 spot on Missouri’s all-time scoring list with 1,624 points.
North Alabama (1-1) is rebounding from a 67-51 home loss to Denver, following their season-opening triumph against Tennessee Southern with a score of 90-47.
Senior guard Alexis Callins, standing at 5 feet 8 inches, led North Alabama with 10 points in a well-balanced effort. Despite shooting only 32.8 percent from the floor, the Lions aim to bounce back.
Callins maintains an average of 11 points per game, closely followed by Rhema Pegues, a 5-foot-8 sophomore guard, with an average of 10 points per game. Pegues was among the top scorers with 12 points in the victory against Tennessee Southern.
North Alabama competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference and concluded the previous season with a 15-15 record. They wrapped up the regular season with five consecutive wins but faced elimination in the conference tournament’s first round against Lipscomb.
This matchup marks the second meeting between Missouri and North Alabama, with the Tigers securing a 96-78 victory in the previous encounter to kick off the 2020-21 season.
