Matt Gaetz Renews Call for National Day of Remembrance: for NAS Pensacola Terrorist Attack Victims

Matt Gaetz Renews Call for National Day: Northwest Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz is urging President Joe Biden to declare December 6 as a National Day of Remembrance for the victims and survivors of the terrorist attack at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola in 2019. The attack, carried out by a Saudi flight student, resulted in the tragic loss of three sailors—Ensign Kaleb Watson, Airman Mohammed Haitham, and Airman Apprentice Cameron Walters—and left eight others injured.

Gaetz’s request seeks to honor the memory of the victims and acknowledge the ongoing struggle of their families. The terrorist attack at NAS Pensacola on December 6, 2019, left a lasting impact on the community, with families like the Watsons experiencing the pain of loss every day. Ensign Kaleb Watson’s parents, Sheila and Ben Watson, emphasize that their son’s memory is a constant source of remembrance and pain.

Naval Airman Ryan Blackwell, one of the eight individuals wounded in the attack, also shared his experience, highlighting the enduring impact of the tragic event. The National Day of Remembrance would provide a dedicated moment for the nation to collectively honor the victims, acknowledge the sacrifices made by military personnel, and support the affected families.

Gaetz’s ongoing efforts to establish December 6 as a National Day of Remembrance reflect a commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of those impacted by the NAS Pensacola terrorist attack are recognized and remembered on a national scale.
