Judge Sakai Leads Resolution: SAPD and DA Office Discord

Judge Sakai Leads Resolution: The issues between the San Antonio Police Department and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office were resolved on September 8 by Judge Peter Sakai. He formed a group to address local issues.

We’ll find a solution. This is the first step to improve things. Sakai said, “Otherwise, we’re just talking.”

Despite much discussion in town halls and private conversations, there remains to be a clear answer.

Judge Ron Rangel of the 379th Criminal District Court has secretly conversed with elected country officials. He disagrees about the issue being with the bail system and magistrate courts.

“One thing we’re learning is that it has nothing to do with bail,” Rangel said. The bail amounts set by magistrates when someone is arrested are as high as ever.

In the coming weeks, he plans to suggest solutions to improve communication between the DA and SAPD.

We’ve heard that the police and the district attorney’s office must communicate more. Rangel emphasized the importance of assisting families seeking justice and urged attention and support to find common ground.

Rangel mentioned 10,000 pending cases at the DA’s office. Judges eager to hear court stories.

“There are fewer cases in the legal system and district court than ever before,” he said. In 5 out of 10 district courts, less than 400 cases exist.

Rangel said, “We should develop good ideas in a few weeks.” The community should feel reassured by these suggestions for safer measures.
