JSU Graduates Embark on New Journeys: Students at Jacksonville State University celebrated their academic achievements as they crossed the stage, marking the completion of their studies. With graduation behind them, these new alumni are now faced with the pivotal question: what comes next?
Maggie Phillips shared her plans, stating, “As of now, I am still applying for jobs and looking for public relations opportunities specifically here in Alabama. I do plan on staying in the state, and I really have no concerns. I’m just excited about what the future holds for me and my chosen career.”
Like many college graduates nationwide, these individuals are on the verge of making significant decisions about their future. Elle Jae Reynolds expressed her preference, saying, “I would prefer to pursue opportunities in different states and also explore my options in Alabama. Since I’ve grown up here, my family is here… it’s OK to spread your wings and explore different areas.”
Jaden Hanshaw, currently working at a nursing home, sees serving others in Alabama as a way of giving back. She highlighted the challenges faced by the older population, including issues of poverty and inadequate social security checks. As a social worker, she aims to address these concerns going forward.
Ashia Hudson, a recipient of the Birmingham Promise Scholarship, has the luxury of time to make decisions. Planning to return in January to pursue her master’s degree, she is committed to giving back to Birmingham by working for the city. “Once I graduate, I plan to get a job in school and do school social work to help the school system become better,” Hudson stated.
Regardless of their individual paths, most graduates emphasized the importance of leaning on family for support in making these tough decisions.
