Gibbs and Montgomery Lions Dynamic Running Back: Duo Shines in Alabama Draft-Day Vision

Gibbs and Montgomery Lions Dynamic Running Back: Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have officially formed a potent running back tandem for the Lions. While both have individually showcased excellence this season, having them both deliver outstanding performances in the same game is a rare feat. In the recent 41-38 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, the duo, dubbed the “two-headed monster” by head coach Dan Campbell, demonstrated their dynamic potential.

Montgomery, returning to the lineup after missing the last two games due to a rib cartilage injury, made a significant impact. He rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, including a spectacular 75-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Gibbs contributed with 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, along with 35 receiving yards. This performance aligns with the Lions’ vision when they selected Gibbs as the 12th overall pick from Alabama in the draft.

Coach Campbell expressed his satisfaction, stating, “To me, this is part of the vision coming alive now. They both deliver something different. They’re both very unique and they’re dangerous…it’s good to see. Gibbs continues to grow, and it’s great to have David back.”

During Montgomery’s absence, Gibbs showcased his talent, particularly in the game against the Las Vegas Raiders before the bye week, where he ran for 152 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. Initially, there was some uncertainty about how the workload would be divided, given the Lions’ significant draft investment in Gibbs. However, with both running backs operating at full capacity, they are proving to be a dynamic and impactful duo.

Montgomery shared his enthusiasm about the dual production, stating, “I think it’s great. Took (Gibbs) a little bit to come along, but as everybody can see — the world can see — he’s coming along. I mean, I told him that I’m following his lead, so it’s a beautiful thing to have two guys being able to perform at a high level, but it also brings some competition, too.”
