Foley High School Teen launches Affirmation Wall: Small Acts, Big Impact

Foley High School Teen launches Affirmation: In Foley High School, 15-year-old Keyla Castro is proving that even small actions can spark significant change. Her positive affirmation wall in the girl’s bathroom, started just a few days ago, has grown into a powerful symbol of positivity.

Castro, driven by a mission to bring light into the school, began with sticky notes and markers. “Instead of seeing all the negativity around, I just wanted to bring something– a light into the school,” she expressed.

Her vision evolved into a collection of positivity and quotes, strategically placed on a mirror. The bathroom setting holds particular significance for Castro. “A lot of girls go to the bathroom to look at themselves. Mental health can be a bad thing in this school just because people feel pressured and you can get anxiety from that,” she noted.

The wall quickly became a hub for messages, prayers, and affirmations. Despite initial doubts, Castro was amazed by the growth. “I would walk into the bathroom, and there were girls writing there, and it made me feel amazing,” she shared.

For Castro, the core message is the power of words. “Affirmations can do so much for you. It can build you up in bigger ways, and then sometimes you might not know it. It might be something small, but when you get told that, you’re constantly reminded. It builds in your head, and you get to know that and you can make it and say I can do this,” she concluded.

Fairhope Middle School has also embraced a positive affirmations system, showcasing the impact of small gestures on a larger scale.
