Florida State Playoff Snub: Deion Sanders done laid out why Florida State got snubbed from the College Football Playoff. Deion Sanders, now makin’ waves in college football after his first season with Colorado, done spoke his mind, and it might ruffle some feathers in Florida State’s nest.
Last week, the bigwigs on the Selection Committee picked Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama for the College Football Playoff. But hold up! They gave the cold shoulder to the Seminoles, even though them boys had a clean record and snatched up that ACC championship.
Never in the history of college football has a Power 5 conference champ been left outta the playoffs, especially without a single loss. But Deion Sanders, in an interview, had his say about why that went down: Nick Saban.
“You gotta reckon with the big shots in football. You can’t have no College Football Playoff without Nick Saban, The Godfather. They ain’t leavin’ Coach Saban outta the mix. That ain’t no playoff if they do. It’s all about the business, not just the game on the field. This here’s a business too.”
Deion Sanders tipped his hat to the decision to expand the College Football Playoff to 12 teams next year, givin’ more schools a shot at that national championship.
“Thank the Lord the Committee saw sense for next year, openin’ up the gate for more schools to try for the playoffs. We aim to be one of ’em.”
He also gave props to Coach Mike Norvell for dealin’ with that tough situation at Florida State. “That’d be a tough spot for any coach. Coach Norvell handled it well and spoke his truth. That’s no small feat.”
Now, how much cash is Deion Sanders haulin’ in at Colorado? A few moons back, he signed on for a five-year, $29.5 million deal with Colorado. Most of that coin came from fans who wanted a star callin’ the shots. They had faith.
In his debut season, Coach Prime pocketed at least $5.5 million, makin’ it the biggest deal in the program’s history. But, mind ya, there’s a heap of bonuses and extras that could pump up that number in the years to come
