Fatal Dog Attack Case: The dog owner involved in the fatal attack on an older man appeared in court for the first time since being charged.

Christian Moreno is charged with two serious crimes: assaulting an older adult and allowing his dog to fatally attack someone.

At his first court hearing, Judge Velia Meza stated that the state must provide medical records by October 25. Afterwards, there will be a meeting to ensure all necessary papers are present. If a date could be scheduled for the meeting.

Investigators report that three dogs escaped their yard on Depla Street and attacked an 81-year-old man. Both Moreno and his wife, Abilene, were taken separately. On February 24, Najera died from his cuts.

Janie, his wife, and two others were injured but recovered. San Antonio firefighters used tools to protect themselves and rescue Najera and his wife. One firefighter was injured, others unharmed.

The dogs owned by Moreno and Schnieder were taken by San Antonio Animal Care Services and had to be euthanized.

Moreno and Schnieder were released from prison. Moreno went to court for the first time on Tuesday, but Schnieder will be there on October 3.

“Injury to the elderly” is punishable by up to five years in jail and/or a $10,000 fine.

Even worse is the charge of a “deadly dog attack.” If guilty, they could face up to 20 years in jail.
