District 4 Town Hall Meeting: Community Seeks Answers After Police Officer Shootings

District 4 Town Hall Meeting: The anger at a town hall meeting in District 4 was palpable in the neighborhood. Hostile forces killed five police officers in weeks. It prompted concerned individuals to reach out to their local leaders for information.

Residents gathered at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, seeking justice reform. Their pleas showed a desire for the punishment of cruel villains. They attended the meeting to break the silence and ensure they were heard.

Most of their anger was directed at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, which they felt was inaccessible and indifferent. As rage grew, angry people, tired of failed attempts for attention, showed up with one goal: to talk to DA Joe Gonzales in person.

Christopher angrily asked Gonzales for answers. He informed Gonzales about his search for details on a horrific murder in early 2022. Gonzales’s silence saddened him. A grieving father whose son died in 2020 said he still can’t move on.

People gathered in the parish to hear what Gonzales and San Antonio Police Chief William McManus had to say. They were concerned about the increase in major crimes in their towns and wanted more information.

Gonzales excelled at simplifying the legal system, demystifying bail, and captivating his audience. Chief McManus anticipated over a hundred new officers joining his team soon.

Both famous people agreed that the change in open carry rules in Texas, which removed the need for a permit, caused the increase in gun-related crimes.

After the meeting, people felt better. Hidden anger and rage echoed in the holy room.

Born and raised in this town, Norma Garza cares deeply about its future, as does her family. Alberto Chevera urged accountability and emphasized the importance of assigning blame accurately instead of shifting it.

Everyone’s desire for answers was evident in the chorus of voices, highlighting the group’s determination to uncover them.

District 7 will hold a town hall meeting on public safety for those unable to attend. As the sun sets on another day, doubt lingers, but hope as the chief and the DA are expected at the Dolores Griffin Senior Center.
