Deonte Brown Returns: Panthers Bolster O-Line Amidst Challenges in AL

Deonte Brown Returns: In a strategic move, the Carolina Panthers welcomed back former Alabama lineman Deonte Brown to their practice squad on Thursday, just sixteen days after his release. This decision follows challenges faced by Carolina’s offensive line since parting ways with Brown on November 16.

The team encountered setbacks with right guard Austin Corbett, who landed on injured reserve due to a season-ending knee injury during a 33-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on November 19. Additionally, this week’s injury report highlights three offensive linemen – tackle Taylor Moton, and guards Cade Mays and Nash Jensen, all listed as limited in Thursday’s practice. Moton, who started at right tackle in the Panthers’ recent 17-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans, faced challenging circumstances with Jensen and Mays in reserve roles.

A standout All-State selection at Austin High School in Decatur, Brown, a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, initially joined the Panthers as part of Alabama’s undefeated 2020 CFP national-championship team.

Brown’s journey with the Panthers faced interruptions, marked by a knee injury in practice following his debut against the Philadelphia Eagles on October 10, 2021. Despite setbacks, he showcased his skills in the season finale, contributing 29 snaps in a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on January 9, 2022.

In both the 2022 and 2023 preseasons, Brown faced waivers as the Panthers trimmed their roster to the regular-season limit. However, the team consistently re-signed him for the practice squad without seeing him in a regular-season NFL game.

As the Panthers gear up to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 3:05 p.m. CST on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, Brown’s return adds depth and experience to address the ongoing challenges on the offensive line
