Daphne Bayfront Park Unveils Transformation: Phase 1 Nears Completion

Daphne Bayfront Park Unveils Transformation: Daphne’s Bayfront Park is still closed as contractors put the finishing touches on phase 1 of improvements. Although funding was approved in June 2022, the city aimed for completion in the summer but faced delays. Phase 1, funded by city resources totaling $3.5 million, involved relocating utilities underground, widening Bayfront Park Drive, improving stormwater drainage, installing pavers, and enhancing landscaping.

Major additions include a new, sizable parking lot and multiple street-side parking spaces. While some projects took longer than expected, landscaping and final touches are now underway. Mayor Robin LeJeune highlighted the transformation of the park’s entrance and the overall positive impact on the bayfront area.

With construction ongoing, walking trails and piers remained accessible via Village Point Park and Preserve on Main Street. Residents expressed their anticipation for Bayfront Park to reopen and explore its new features.

The city expects to reopen Bayfront Park by the end of the month, possibly by Christmas. Phase 2 is already in progress, with environmental studies underway. Over $8 million in GOMESA (Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act) funds are allocated for the construction of an outdoor amphitheater and restroom facility. The continuous improvements aim to enhance the park’s recreational offerings and contribute to the community’s growth and enjoyment of the waterfront.
