Cullman County Veterans Day Celebration: CULLMAN, Ala. In Cullman County, home to an estimated 7,000 veterans and counting, finding a meaningful way to honor and appreciate everyone on Veterans Day can be a challenge. Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Ken Brown, a prominent figure in the local veteran community, suggests a personal approach: meeting veterans, hearing their stories, and expressing genuine gratitude face-to-face. An ideal opportunity for this connection arises on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Cullman Regional Airport, hosting the annual Cullman County Veterans Day Celebration.
Brown emphasizes the importance of community support for veterans, noting that despite the community’s growth and busyness, support for veterans has remained constant or even diminished at times. He encourages everyone to take a few hours before the Auburn and Alabama football games on that Saturday to attend the Veterans Day Celebration, a tradition held every first Saturday of November.
The event promises a lively experience with various family-friendly activities centered around military life: explore military vehicles and aircraft, some dating back to WWII; take a ride in a Huey helicopter; observe historic military weapons; engage with period reenactors in full dress; and gather information from booths hosted by veterans organizations.

Brown urges Cullman residents to go beyond social media gestures and spend a couple of hours physically showing support for the local veterans.
“Hug a few vets, demonstrate to them and their families that the sacrifices they made for our country mean something to the rest of us. We’re worth it,” he expressed.
The Cullman County Veterans Day Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cullman Regional Airport, 231 County Road 1360, Vinemont, AL 35179. Parking and admission are free.
