Colbert County Rallies for Heroic 10-Year-Old Cayson: Fundraiser Cooks Up Support

Colbert County Rallies for Heroic 10-Year-Old Cayson: The Colbert County community united to support a young boy facing a challenging holiday season. Fourteen volunteer fire departments came together behind the Alabama Music Hall of Fame to smoke 420 Boston butts, with the proceeds aimed at helping 10-year-old Cayson McClung and his family.

Cayson, a heroic youngster, was shot in the face while attempting to save his mom during a tragic murder-suicide incident. The community organized the fundraiser to directly contribute to Cayson’s family, assisting with medical bills as he recovers from injuries sustained in the incident.

Colbert County Coroner Matt Moore emphasized the community’s close-knit nature, stating, “Colbert County’s a small county, and we’re all about helping each other, and as volunteer firefighters, we do it every day.

Jody Hitt, Deputy Director of the Colbert County Emergency Management Agency, expressed the community’s solidarity with Cayson, recognizing that many either have experienced similar challenges or are preparing for potential tragedies. He stated, “I’m a firm believer if you help one, they’re going to help you.”

The organizers remained committed to the cause, cooking meats throughout the night and planning to continue early into the next day. They mentioned that Cayson and his father were expected to visit in the morning, underscoring the community’s ongoing support for the young boy and his family.
