She operates the charming B&B with her husband, Keith, just south of the lake. With ongoing heatwaves and drought, Comal County business owners are concerned about summer 2023 tourism. The Chamber of Commerce says work continued.
Hammons said her inn needs to focus on something other than the lake. Her business remained stable during the summer.
Some boat ramps are closed due to unsafe water levels. “It’s been tough for our usual guides,” Hammons said. June, July, and August were our best months this year. They beat our 2022 numbers, too.
Nikki Orsak, a board member at the Canyon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, learned an important lesson from the summer of 2022: They should market the entire Canyon Lake area, not just the shore.
“Our business follows small-town, old-fashioned principles,” Orsak explained. This situation has pushed people to explore new activities outside their comfort zones in this area.
Hammons is excited for the upcoming fall and winter seasons despite the unknown future.
Hammons said, “I love welcoming our guests.”
