Brombergs Narrowly Escapes Disaster: Police Chase Ends in Jewelry Store Crash

Brombergs Narrowly Escapes Disaster: In the hours, a police pursuit concluded within the iconic Brombergs jewelry store in Mountain Brook Village.

“It’s like a bomb’s gone off,” remarked Ricky Bromberg, the company president. “It’s a blessing nobody was here, nobody got hurt.”

A Nissan Titan pickup collided with an exterior display window at the building’s corner.

“It happened at 2:40 a.m. because that’s where the clock in that area is stopped,” shared Bromberg.

Mountain Brook Police Chief Jaye Loggins confirmed one person in custody, unharmed.

An officer on routine patrols at 2:35 a.m. spotted a vehicle speeding recklessly in the 3600 block of Montevallo Road. Despite an attempted traffic stop, the driver continued, eventually losing control while crossing Cahaba Road and crashing into the storefront.

The unnamed driver fled into the store, apprehended about 25 minutes later.

An investigation revealed the stolen vehicle, with the driver facing two felony warrants.

Had the truck deviated just 10 feet to the left, it would have smashed through the ground-to-roof glass storefront.

“That would have been a complete and utter disaster,” reflected Bromberg.

While there’s significant property damage, no merchandise was lost.

“It’s a big deal, but it could have been a disaster,” Bromberg emphasized. “We all feel blessed.”

The store remains open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

“The show must go on,” declared Bromberg.
