Baldwin County Residents Heart Walk in Foley: Raises Over $123K to Fight Heart Disease

Baldwin County Residents Heart Walk in Foley: In Foley, Alabama, despite misty weather, approximately 100 community members gathered at OWA Park for the annual Baldwin County Heart Walk. The event aimed to raise funds and awareness for the American Heart Association’s mission of combating heart disease and stroke.

The family-friendly event commenced with an opening ceremony hosted by Anchor Lenise Ligon. Attendees listened to inspiring stories from heart disease survivors and remarks from 2023 Heart Walk Chair Tommy Faust of BankPlus. Following a warmup, participants embarked on either a 1-mile “Miracle Mile” route or a 3-mile path throughout OWA.

Throughout the course, walkers encountered signs sharing facts about cardiovascular health, and volunteers at cheering stations motivated the participants. Despite the cloudy skies, the event maintained an upbeat and passionate atmosphere. Walkers proudly wore red capes symbolizing their survivor status, and children showcased faces painted like hearts and animals.

Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and participants, the Baldwin County Heart Walk surpassed its $110,000 fundraising goal, raising over $123,556 this year. The proceeds will support the AHA’s cardiovascular research and education initiatives locally.

“It was so inspiring to see our community come together for this cause,” said Anchor Lenise Ligon. “The funds raised bring the community one step closer to the vision of a world free of heart disease and stroke.”

Participants, whether walking for themselves or loved ones, agreed that the misty weather was a minor inconvenience compared to the importance of the cause. The AHA will continue collecting Heart Walk donations until the end of the year for those who missed the in-person event but still wish to contribute.
