Baldwin County Commission Seals Deal: on Roadway Transfer to ALDOT

Baldwin County Commission Seals Deal: In a recent development, the Baldwin County Commission has officially handed over control of several key roadways to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).

The affected routes include parts of the Baldwin Beach Express, Foley Beach Express, Roscoe Road, and County Road 4, all of which will now fall under the ownership and maintenance of ALDOT.

This strategic move is aimed at creating a more integrated roadway network leading to Alabama’s Gulf Coast beaches. Baldwin County Engineer Frank Lundy highlighted the significance, stating, “The Beach Express routes serve as a major corridor to connect the traveling public to Alabama’s Gulf Coast Beaches.

The transfer of these routes to ALDOT allows for a more cohesive roadway network, maintained by one agency, to better facilitate the needs of the traveling public.”

ALDOT officials note that discussions regarding this transfer have been ongoing for over a decade. While acknowledging the local priority of establishing a connection from I-65, they clarified that it is not part of this particular transfer.

This move aligns with the broader trend of roadway and bridge transfers between local and state entities, ensuring efficient maintenance and development.
