Alabama School of Mathematics and Science: Launches Free ACT-Prep Initiative

Alabama School of Mathematics and Science: In an effort to assist high school juniors across Alabama in preparing for the ACT, the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS) is offering free ACT-prep courses. The initiative, known as “ACT Prep with ASMS,” is open to any high school junior in Alabama, with a focus on students who may face barriers to accessing traditional ACT preparation resources due to factors such as income, geography, or scheduling constraints.

The program will consist of a twice-weekly online course running from January through March of the upcoming year. ASMS aims to extend its mission of education beyond its local community in southwest Alabama and address the declining trend in ACT scores in recent years.

ACT scores play a crucial role for students aspiring to attend college, influencing both enrollment opportunities and eligibility for merit-based scholarships. By providing free ACT preparation, ASMS aims to empower students to achieve higher scores, enhancing their chances of gaining admission to desired colleges and securing scholarship funding.

Mitch Frye, Academic Dean at ASMS, emphasized the importance of standardized testing in opening doors for students and acknowledged that the preparation offered by ASMS can help students embark on successful career paths.

The program, with 100 available spots, reflects ASMS’s commitment to giving back to the state and contributing to the educational advancement of high school students statewide. The deadline for sign-up is January 3rd at noon.
