Alabama Medical Marijuana Movement Gains Traction: 20 Companies Secure Key Licenses

Alabama Medical Marijuana Movement Gains Traction: Alabama took a significant step forward in its medical marijuana program as the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC) awarded licenses to 20 companies to cultivate, process, transport, test, and sell medical marijuana products. Patients with doctor recommendations will soon have access to medical cannabis for treating various conditions and symptoms.

This marks the third round of license awards by the AMCC, overcoming previous setbacks and legal challenges. The recent licenses come after a mediated settlement with companies that had filed lawsuits against the commission, leading to a resolution that excluded scores from third-party evaluators used in previous rankings.

The awarded licenses cover various categories:
– Cultivators: CRC of Alabama, Greenway Botanicals, Gulf Shore Remedies, Native Black Cultivation, Creek Leaf Wellness, Twisted Herb Cultivation, and I AM FARMS.
– Processors: Organic Harvest Lab, Coosa Medical Manufacturing, 1819 Labs, and Jasper Development Group.
– Dispensaries: CCS of Alabama, GP6 Wellness, Capitol Medical, and RJK Holdings.

Additionally, licenses were granted for Secure Transporters (Alabama Secure Transport, Tyler Van Lines, Pick Up My Things, and International Communication) and a Testing Lab (Certus Laboratories).

The AMCC’s new approach to the licensing process included presentations from applicants, providing a more comprehensive evaluation. The companies selected are set to be issued licenses on December 29 after investigations and on-site inspections are conducted.

While these developments signify progress, the final category of licenses, integrated licenses, will be awarded on December 12. Integrated licensees will have the ability to cultivate, process, transport, and dispense medical marijuana products. The integrated license category has been the subject of significant controversy and legal challenges.
