Alabama Gears Up for Iron Bowl with Key Players: Returning, Saban Emphasizes Stakes

Alabama Gears Up for Iron Bowl with Key Players: In Tuscaloosa, linebacker Deontae Lawson (ankle) and defensive back Jaylen Key (quad) are set to make a return for Alabama in the upcoming Iron Bowl, as reported by sources to BamaCentral.

Lawson, the Crimson Tide’s middle linebacker, missed three games this season due to injury. Despite the setbacks, he boasts 52 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks in eight games.

Jaylen Key, a starting safety alongside true freshman Caleb Downs, suffered a quad injury in Alabama’s victory over then-No. 14 LSU on Nov. 4. After two weeks on the sidelines, he is ready to contribute again, bringing with him 46 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and an interception in nine games played.

Good news for Alabama continues with the return of wide receiver Kobe Prentice, absent from the previous week’s game. Linebacker Quandarrius Robinson is also making a comeback after sustaining an injury late in the game against Chattanooga.

However, wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks will remain sidelined due to a reported shoulder injury. Despite only three catches this season, Brooks has an impressive track record with 866 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons in Tuscaloosa, including catching the game-tying touchdown in the 2021 Iron Bowl.

Head coach Nick Saban emphasized the significance of the Iron Bowl, acknowledging Auburn’s strong team and anticipating a highly competitive match. Saban stated, “I don’t think records or any of that stuff really matters when it comes to what happens in this game.”
