Alabama Crimson Tide Dominates Season Opener: with 105-73 Win against Morehead State

Alabama Crimson Tide Dominates Season: TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama Crimson Tide kicked off the new basketball season with a commanding 105-73 victory against Morehead State on Monday night.

Last season, the Crimson Tide dominated with a rotation of nine or 10 players, clinching an SEC championship double and the No. 1 overall seed. In the season-opener, Alabama (1-0) showcased its depth, playing 11 guys for double-digit minutes.

South Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson led the team with 25 minutes, closing the game with an impressive 24 points and seven rebounds. Guards Mark Sears and Aaron Estrada followed closely with 24 and 23 minutes, respectively.

While a 32-point victory in November against a mid-major opponent might not reveal the final rotation, the Crimson Tide faces decisions ahead. And that’s not even considering guard Kris Parker, absent due to injury.

“I don’t know how it’s gonna get shrunk… the guys playing fewer minutes ahead will still be really good players,” commented head coach Nate Oats. “If we have an injury, I think we’ll withstand injuries better. Two years ago, we weren’t nearly as deep… Injuries are part of the game. If we have one, some guys will step up.”

Oats emphasized that minutes will be earned based on performance and defensive effort.

“We’ve got to get a lot better on defense. We weren’t where we need to be. I don’t want to be disrespectful—Morehead is a very good mid-major team. We played a deep rotation, I gave everybody a chance. Some of these guys, if they don’t figure out how to guard, they’re not going to be playing when we play some high-major teams,” Oats added.
