Teen Faces Charges in Drive by Shooting: In an October tragedy in Hueytown, a 19-year-old, Kevin Lee Whitley from Quinton, faces charges in the killing of another teen, 17-year-old Frederick Lamar Harvey. Tragically, Harvey, an innocent bystander, fell victim to a drive-by shooting on Oct. 7 around 2:15 a.m. The incident unfolded in the 1000 block of 27th Avenue.

Harvey, seated in the back of a vehicle, became a target when someone opened fire. Pronounced dead at the scene at 2:26 a.m., the young life was cut short.

Whitley, also known by the rap moniker BaBy Diabo, faces charges of capital murder and attempted murder. Other occupants in the vehicle escaped physical harm.

Hueytown police Lt. Michael Shupe revealed that, during the homicide investigation, detectives linked Whitley to another shooting on Jan. 15 in the 400 block of Murphy’s Lane. Fortunately, no injuries occurred in that incident, but charges of shooting into an unoccupied dwelling and shooting have been filed.

The ongoing investigation leaves room for potential charges against others involved. Once booked into the Jefferson County Jail, Whitley will be held without bond.

Chief Mike Yarbrough expressed pride in the relentless efforts of the detectives working on the case. Bringing closure to Fred’s family and sending a clear message against senseless violence, Yarbrough emphasized the commitment to bringing perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
