Former 5 Star Recruit AJ Harris Eyes Auburn for a Homecoming

Former 5 Star Recruit AJ Harris: In a recent move, AJ Harris, a freshman defensive back and former 5-star player from Georgia, has entered the transfer portal. The news surfaced on Friday evening, with Harris hinting at his decision in a social media response to a former teammate.

Before his stint at Georgia, where he played in seven games and recorded eight tackles in his freshman season, Harris made a name for himself as a standout defensive back at Central High School in Phenix City, just 40 minutes east of Auburn.

Harris held the impressive title of the second-best cornerback in the 2023 recruiting cycle and was the number one prospect from Alabama, regardless of position. During his recruitment, Harris received offers from notable institutions such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, USC, and others.

During his time at Central, Harris was a teammate of Cam Coleman, a current 5-star Auburn commit, whose recent switch from Texas A&M played a significant role in shaping Hugh Freeze’s 2024 class.

Unsurprisingly, Auburn quickly became associated with Harris as a potential transfer destination, and as the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

On his Instagram story, Coleman urged his former Central teammate to “come home.” Additionally, Auburn running back Damari Alston reposted the news with a comment, using the lock emoji to suggest that the Tigers might have Harris “locked down.”

As social media chatter continued’ Phillip Duke on X (formerly Twitter) stated that Harris landing at Auburn “looks like a real possibility,” and he added, “And soon.”

If Harris makes the move to Auburn, it would be a significant boost to the team’s defensive back roster, aiming to fill the void left by the departure of veterans DJ James, Nehemiah Pritchett, and Jaylin Simpson, who are set to go pro in 2024.
