Chattanooga Women Basketball Continues Historic: Chattanooga women’s basketball secured their eighth consecutive win and 10th victory of the season by defeating Lipscomb 72-62 in Nashville. Despite a competitive second half, the Mocs showcased their three-point shooting prowess and overall resilience to maintain their impressive start to the season. With the win, Chattanooga achieved its best start to a season in program history since 1987-88.

Head coach Shawn Poppie commended the team’s “gutsy win,” highlighting the contributions of various players stepping up in the absence of Raven Thompson. The victory reflected a balanced team effort, with players like Sigrun Olafsdottir, Caia Elisaldez, Addie Grace Porter, and Jada Guinn making crucial contributions.

The game saw an early test for the Mocs as Lipscomb displayed aggression in both attacking and defending the paint. Chattanooga responded by relying on three-point shooting, with Karsen Murphy’s early triples providing a crucial advantage. Despite Murphy’s absence due to fouls, the Mocs maintained a lead, ending the first quarter 13-10.

In the second quarter, Chattanooga initiated a scoring run, highlighted by Addie Grace Porter’s three-pointers. Lipscomb remained competitive, closing the gap with a 6-0 scoring run at the end of the first half. The Mocs led 30-24 going into halftime.

The third quarter saw multiple Mocs contributing offensively, including freshman Caia Elisaldez making her first collegiate start. However, Lipscomb stayed competitive, reducing the lead to just one point by the end of the quarter (40-39).

Lipscomb took the lead in the fourth quarter, but Chattanooga responded with crucial plays. Caia Elisaldez’s three-pointer extended the lead, and Jada Guinn sealed the victory, scoring 10 of UTC’s final 14 points. The Mocs secured a 72-62 win, maintaining their winning streak.

Jada Guinn, nearly earning a double-double, led the team with 24 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Addie Grace Porter contributed 12 points, while Caia Elisaldez achieved a career-high 11 points in her first start. Despite foul trouble, Karsen Murphy’s impressive performance included nine points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in just 12 minutes of play.
