LSU Bounces Back: Dominant 75-56 Win Over Alabama State Sets for Texas Showdown

LSU Bounces Back: LSU faced a tough loss to Kansas State, but they rebounded with a decisive 75-56 victory against Alabama State. Coach Matt McMahon urged his team to step up, and they responded, securing an 18-point win. Although Alabama State led at halftime, LSU dominated the second half, showcasing improved offensive pace, crisper ball movement, sharper cuts, and better screens.

“In the second half, shooting the ball. I thought our pace offensively was better,” McMahon praised. “Our execution was better, but I know we talked about it after that Kansas State game, passing up some good shots. We did some of those same things in the first half tonight.”

Four LSU players scored in double figures, with freshman Mike Williams III leading with 15 points, including three three-pointers. Jordan Wright and Jalen Reed added 13 points each, and Trae Hannibal contributed 11 points off the bench. LSU collectively shot an impressive 39.1% from behind the arc and 52.1% overall, marking their best offensive performance in December.

McMahon acknowledged the players’ increased aggressiveness and improved execution. Looking ahead to a challenging matchup against No. 19 Texas in Houston, McMahon emphasized the need for continued excellence. The game, set in the Toyota Center, serves as a neutral court despite being in the Longhorns’ backyard. Catch the action on ESPN2 with the opening tip-off scheduled for Noon ET.
