Sen Katie Britt Celebrates Passage of NDAA: Over $316 Million Boost for Alabama Defense

Sen Katie Britt Celebrates Passage of NDAA: Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., hailed the passage of the annual defense spending bill, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), by the Senate. The bill includes over $316 million for enhancing military bases and National Guard facilities in Alabama.

The NDAA, passed with a bipartisan vote of 87-13, encompasses various provisions beneficial to Alabama and national defense. Sen. Britt highlighted a 5.2 percent pay raise for troops, resumption of border wall construction, and merit-based military promotions.

The $316 million allocated for military construction projects in Alabama includes funding for a ground test facility on Redstone Arsenal, military family housing at Maxwell Air Force Base, a new Army Reserve center in Birmingham, and new barracks at Ft. Novosel.

Sen. Britt emphasized the significance of these projects for Alabama’s national defense and job creation. She also introduced provisions, such as freezing funding to Space Command headquarters in Colorado pending a full audit, and amendments focused on mental health care access for military families.

Additionally, Britt supported the FINISH IT Act, directing the use of unused border wall panels, and the MERIT Act, promoting merit-based military promotions. The NDAA now heads to the House for consideration, facing potential challenges over specific concerns raised by some far-right members.
