LSU Tigers Roar to Victory: BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — In a freshman standout performance, Mike Williams III matched his season-high with 15 points, guiding LSU to a commanding 74-56 victory over Alabama State on Wednesday night.

Despite trailing 34-30 at halftime, LSU orchestrated a dominant second half. CJ Hines and TJ Madlock’s early 3-pointers maintained Alabama State’s lead at 40-35 around the 17-minute mark. However, LSU responded with a 13-0 run, spearheaded by Williams’ eight points, including two 3-pointers, propelling the Tigers to a 48-40 lead.

Later in the half, LSU showcased sharpshooting, making six of eight shots and extending their lead to 70-54 with five minutes remaining. Despite a late slowdown with only six points in the final five minutes, LSU maintained control as Alabama State struggled, scoring just two points in the same period.

LSU demonstrated exceptional second-half performance, shooting 57.7% and sinking seven 3-pointers. In contrast, Alabama State’s shooting dipped to 29.6%, and they were outscored 44-22.

Jordan Wright contributed 13 points with five rebounds and six assists for the Tigers (6-4), with Jalen Reed adding 13 points and seven rebounds, and Trae Hannibal tallying 11 points.

The early stages saw LSU leading 11-5, but Alabama State swiftly caught up, claiming a 16-15 lead. The first half featured three ties and seven lead changes, culminating in a Hornets’ 8-0 run securing a 34-30 halftime lead. Madlock played a pivotal role with 15 points in the half.

Madlock finished the game with 18 points, while Isaiah Range and Hines added 15 and 13 points, respectively, for Alabama State (4-5), each contributing three of the team’s nine 3-pointers.

Looking ahead, LSU is set to face Texas in The Halal Guys Showcase in Houston on Saturday, while Alabama State will host Southern California on Tuesday.
