Alabama Legion Ladies Bring Holiday Cheer: Veterans with Not Forgotten Initiative

Alabama Legion Ladies Bring Holiday Cheer: It’s heartwarming to see efforts like “Forgotten Not Forgotten Veterans” by the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 199 in Fairhope, Alabama. For the second consecutive year, these dedicated individuals are ensuring that local veterans in nursing homes are not forgotten during the holiday season.

With a focused mission to support veterans, the ladies are diligently preparing Christmas bags for 70 veterans across nine nursing homes along the Gulf Coast. Alabama, with a significant concentration of veterans, often faces resource challenges, making these gestures even more impactful.

Operating on a budget of $35 to $50 per veteran, the ladies go the extra mile by obtaining wish lists and conducting personalized shopping. The items include sweat suits, radio headphones, electric razors, and other requested essentials.

Fundraising and collecting donations since the summer, the ladies have curated thoughtful bags filled with toiletries, crossword books, DVDs, American flags, blankets, scarves, socks, snacks, and more. Their dedication exemplifies a commitment to giving back to those who have served their country.

For the veterans receiving these Christmas bags, it’s more than just a gift; it’s a heartfelt gesture that brings joy and recognition during the holiday season. The effort highlights the community’s appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans and the collective commitment to ensuring they feel valued and remembered.
