Cullman Festival of Trees Lights Up CWAC: with Community Charm

Cullman Festival of Trees Lights Up CWAC: In a festive event at the Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center (CWAC), the Cullman Tree Commission introduced the inaugural Festival of Trees. Students from local public and private schools collaborated to decorate Christmas trees, turning the CWAC lobby into a holiday wonderland.

Barry Slatton, Tree Commission Chairman, shared the history of Christmas trees during the opening ceremony, tracing their origins from Germany in the 1500s to America in the 1850s. The Festival of Trees aims to be a free display for the community to enjoy throughout the holiday season.

Various schools sponsored and decorated trees, showcasing creativity and themes that represent their communities. Notable contributions included West Elementary’s “Alabama Math” rivalry theme, Cullman High School’s “The Sweetest Time of Year” with a CandyLand theme, and Cullman Christian School’s “The Names of Jesus” with intricate decorations and sentiments.

Other schools, such as East Elementary, Cullman City Primary School, Cullman Middle School, Sacred Heart, St. Paul’s Lutheran School, and St. Bernard Preparatory School, each brought their unique flair to the festive display.

Phyllis Hain, a volunteer consultant, expressed the hope that these trees would bring joy to the community throughout the holiday season. The Festival of Trees, located in the CWAC wellness lobby, is open for viewing during CWAC’s operating hours throughout December, free for all to enjoy.
